When National IT first engaged with Genis Steel, the business ran from a single site with separate servers at each location. Those servers caused constant data-synchronisation failures, staff regularly worked from outdated drawings, creating errors and delays in an environment where accuracy is everything.

Support was largely reactive, and the infrastructure had no clear path to scale. As the company expanded interstate, file access became the constraint. For a steel fabricator on major construction projects, inaccessible files carry real commercial risk, including liquidated-damages exposure.

We started with a thorough review, surveying staff and department heads to understand the real friction points. The separate site servers were replaced with a centralised server connected by a dedicated fibre link, giving every team member real-time access to the same live data.

As the business grew, we migrated Genis Steel to a centralised file platform that combines web access with traditional network-drive mapping, real-time access to live CAD drawings and high-resolution PDFs, with controlled external sharing and security policies built in. Single sign-on with Microsoft 365, link-expiry policies and mobile device management keep collaboration secure, from any site.

Genis Steel's workforce has grown from 24 to 115+ users, with IT now supporting operations across multiple Australian states. Manufacturing is no longer slowed by data conflicts or sync failures.

Field and interstate teams have reliable, real-time access to drawings and documentation, with security controls that meet government and major commercial construction requirements, and staff once tied up in manual workarounds have been redeployed to higher-value work.

“National IT doesn't only deliver the IT project, they hold a key seat as an internal IT spokesperson. The tech is the easiest part. It's the change management, and like most businesses we can be time poor. National IT owning that piece, really having a seat at the table, has been a great addition.”
